The Origin of 'Illumii'

A Name Chosen for Clarity

When we were looking for a name for the platform, we wanted something that felt simple, memorable, and closely connected to what the product does.

The name Illumii comes from the idea of illumination — making technology easier to see, understand, and manage. UniFi networking can be powerful, but hosting and maintaining it in the cloud shouldn’t feel complicated. We wanted a name that suggested clarity rather than complexity.

The double “ii” was a deliberate design choice. It gave the name a distinctive look, made it easier to secure as a brand and domain, and subtly reflects the connection between infrastructure and the people who rely on it.

That’s really all there is to it. Illumii is simply a name built around the idea of bringing clarity to cloud-hosted networking, and that goal continues to shape the platform today.
